In this recipe, a new database called TestDetach was created. After that, I used ALTER DATABASE to set the TestDetach database into single user mode, while also kicking out any open database connections using the ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE option. The system-stored procedure sp_detach_db was then used to detach the database but not before updating statistics (designating false in the second parameter) and also dropping any fulltext index files (designating false in the third parameter). Using the detach/attach method is a clean way to migrate a database from one SQL Server instance to another, assuming that a copy of the database needn t remain on both SQL Server instances.
